Alisha Ruffin May is your candidate for Circuit Court Judge, Place 20. Alisha currently serves as a Senior Trial Referee in Jefferson County Family Court. She is fearless, decisive, and a hard working public servant.
Alisha received her undergraduate and law degree from the University of Alabama where she served on the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Team and the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society, just to name a few.
Alisha is also an accomplished attorney with a proven track record. She has over twenty years experience as a practicing attorney in Birmingham, Alabama, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. A committed public servant with a heart for people, over the past twenty-one years, Alisha has vigorously fought for justice for thousands of husbands, wives, children, and families.
Alisha is also a staunch advocate and defender of the rule of law. She is “smart as a whip” and is frequently called upon by other legal professionals to share and discuss an in-depth analysis of some legal precedent. She has empathy for all people, not just for those who look like her or have a similar background. She is a woman of high moral character and beliefs who stands boldly for justice. And for the past three years, Alisha has been on the bench in family court hearing hundreds of cases each month involving custody disputes and child support matters. Her vision is to provide the public with fair service, where the law is applied fairly and accurately to all; swift service, where matters are handled quickly with no unnecessary delays; and courteous service, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Divorced, single mother of two, Alisha knows firsthand the difficulty many face in navigating the court process, the challenges that come with separation, and the absolute imperative for harmonious dealings.
Lastly, Alisha is a woman of faith who has worked her entire life in the church. Over the years, she has served as Assistant Secretary of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Director of Children’s Church, Director of Mime Ministry, Choir Member, Usher, and most recently, leader of the Drama Ministry at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where she currently attends with her two adult children and lovely granddaughter.
To relax and unwind, Alisha enjoys reading, writing, traveling, and simply enjoying quality time with her family, friends, and sorority.
